12-04-22 BMW track day

I stopped in at the BMW track day for a bit this morning to capture some of the action before the Formula 1 race got started (congrats to Vettel by the way), which also happened to be before the on track action got started – so no on track photos . Great turnout with plenty of E30’s and E36’s though

12-04-21 WPMC Drag Racing

After a relatively slow start to the day as a result of the greasy conditions things started to get interesting as a few new cars started rolling in. Amongst others where a number of old school Skylines as well as a super fast R32 Skyline, an E46 M3 and 330i. Michael Kayser impressed once again in his champ bakkie running a 10.2s quarter mile by the time I left. Unfortunately there where a number of breakages during the day, notably Bad Brad in his Pro-Fit Golf and defending regional Champion, Brendan Moore. Brendan “Mr Consistency” Moore jumped from his stricken beach buggy into his daily drive, an Opel Corsa UTE, and proceeded to impress by taking the brackets competition. I believe Garion Slamet set a World Record quartermile time for a 750cc bike running a 9.40s (I think) quarter mile time, I’ll update this info as soon as I get confirmation. Be sure to catch the next impressive display of some of the fastest cars in Cape Town at round 3 of our Regional Drag Racing Series on the 1st of May… see you there…

12-04-14 WPMC regional racing

I often attend Killarney’s regional racing as a spectator, swapping my camera for a few cold beers and a braai. This past Saturday I thought I’d leave the beer on ice and try to bring you a little of what regional racing has to offer to the spectator. With the day consisting of 18 races there is enough on track action to keep any petrol head entertained. To give you an idea of what a regional race meeting is all about from a spectator’s point of view all photos are from areas accessable to the general public. Check out the WPMC (Western Province Motor Club) website at http://www.wpmc.co.za for upcoming events, I hope to see you there…

Regional racing doesn’t just consist of Mk1 Golfs and old Fords, there are number of Porsche’s and ex Super Series cars setting blistering times…

Wet weather tyres ensure come rain or shine there’ll be racing

The Marshals, always prepared to hit the track in a hurry
