12-07-27 Topend Launch Party

What a launch for a automotive workshop, but then I guess Topend aren’t marketing themselves as just and any automotive workshop. Catering to vehicles across the board, from Mazdas to Maseratis, Fords to Ferraris, these guys will source it… fit it… tune it. But let’s get back to Friday, you would have sworn you where at a nightclub if it wasn’t for the vehicle lifts and toolboxes… Topend really outdid themselves. The motoring media and socialites in attendance where treated to top food, drink and even cigars while taking in the facilities, top stuff by Topend. All the best to Leon and Johan, and thanks guys for bringing something like this to Cape Town

12-07-13 CapeStance SLAMO-METER 1

With the prospect of a very cold evening ahead I headed out early to the 1st CapeStance SLAMO-METER event to catch some of the action before the freeze really set in. Jason from BoostSA and I seemed to have the same idea as we both where the 1st to arrive and where summarily turned away by the security at the gate who didn’t seem to know what was going on… I guess we where a little too early, LOL. At least it gave us time to pick up our chat from the last event while we waited for things to get going and get going it did. Slammed car after slammed car filed into the underground parking, some being met with the sound of scraping bumpers as they struggled to navigate the ramped entrance. It was a great turnout for such a cold evening, props to CapeStance and the die hard Cape car scene. I left just as the SLAMO-METER action was about to get underway and as I sit here typing this with a sore throat and groggy head I guess I know why my body told me to leave when it did. On my way home to the Southern Suburbs I had the “pleasure” of having to go though a roadblock, with the Ghost Squad in attendance I hope non of the Southern Suburbs slammed cars got any grief. Great stuff CapeStance… till next time

12-06-30 Volk Edition Dyno Day

I headed out to JDM Worx early Saturday afternoon to capture some of the rides that braved the rain to support the Volk Edition dyno day. I think it’s been 2½ years since I was at a Volk Edition, the last being the CAR WASH back in January 2010. Back to this event though, dubbed Germany versus Japan it seemed that the German contingent where a little less afraid of the rain than the Japanese with the Japanese being way outnumbered by the Germans by the time I left. It was also great to catch up with Jason of BoostSA (catch his coverage HERE) at an event where we can have a normal conversation without having to contend with screeching tyres and plumes of smoke. Congrats to JDM Worx and Volk Edition on a great turnout despite the weather, great stuff guys…

12-06-02 Cape Speed Show and Shine

CPUT (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) played host to the Cape Speed Show and Shine today, a fundraising event in aid of the group of Mechanical Engineering students who will compete in the 2012 Formula Student competition in the UK during July. Unfortunitely the car the students built from the ground up wasn’t present today as it’s currently on the water, making it’s way to Silverstone. Check out their Facebook page to keep up to date with their progress, good luck guys & girls. Big up to the event organisers… the Engineering Faculty in conjunction Maxdup Media and SSJ Concepts for getting together for this worthy cause.

Some of the members of Cape Speed with Junaid & Taariq of Raceweb.co.za

Thanks to Shiraz of SSJ Concepts for allowing me access to do my thing 😉

12-04-22 BMW track day

I stopped in at the BMW track day for a bit this morning to capture some of the action before the Formula 1 race got started (congrats to Vettel by the way), which also happened to be before the on track action got started – so no on track photos . Great turnout with plenty of E30’s and E36’s though

12-04-01 Team Mugen record Honda Hookup

Yesterday saw Team Mugen attempt to break their previous 220+ Honda hookup record with a target of 300+, their final figure 325. Congrats to Garth of Team Mugen as well as his sponsors on an awesome accomplishment, I don’t know how you’re going to top this one guys…

Unfortunately I couldn’t stay as long as I would have liked, the heat was getting to my boy
