11-12-26 Street 2 Strip

After a short break giving the marshals and commentators a well deserved breather and allowing the MSA competitors the opportunity to make their way safely out of the pits area we saw a steady stream of competitors making their way in for the night time Street 2 Strip session. With the enties limited to 250 we saw the queue starting way past Cape Town Corner and just over an hour wait between runs giving plenty of time for the drivers to size up their competition. My (somewhat biased) highlight had to be the Raceweb RX-7 managing a 13.1s pass 1st time out with a Killarney novice at the wheel, nice one… now onto the pics…

11-12-26 WPMC Drag Racing – Part 1

An awesome day of racing on Boxing Day with nearly 50 competitors taking part in the MSA portion of the day. With 3 cars running in the 10’s top honuors went to Michael Kayser running a 10.401s quarter mile in his Nissan Champ. Unfortunately Hermann Mostert (Rover-Tec) could only manage one pass, an impressive 10.604s pass, before having to pull out with engine trouble – he would definitely have been a contender for top honors if he hadn’t had to pull out. Another impressive appearance was from R-Tech’s space frame fiberglass bodied Caddy which managed a best time of 11.302s. Top honors for the bikes went to Sharief Reynolds running a 9.099 quarter mile time, awesome stuff. Part 1…

The Daily Voice – 23/12/2011

After supplying photos for last week’s Daily Voice spread honouring Willie Nel I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t credited, thanks to Bobby for rectifying the situation in this week’s issue

High up on my list of cars I’d like to own one day is a bugeye STI so whenever there’s a Subaru track day I try to make a turn to catch a glimpse of the car that’ll be sitting in my garage one day. Pulling up to the new pits area this afternoon I’m greeted by a sea of Subaru’s sporting sticky semis and the sound of screeching tyres and heavily modified boxer motors screaming round the track. For a Sunday there weren’t any Sunday drivers out today but without a doubt, while I was there anyway, the fastest car around the track had to be the Matt Black Cool Bananas monster. I believe there was a monster black Evo competing for top honors but unfortunately by the time I got there had been sidelined with what I believe was a blown head gasket. Anyway… onto the pics…

11-12-16 WPMC drag racing

Firstly, a big thank you to my wife for being cool enough to let me take in the action at Killarney on our wedding anniversary… love you babe. Coincidently it’s the 20th anniversary to the day that Willie Nel started racing at Killarney and although the day was dedicated to Oom Willie the day undoubtedly belonged to the relative new kid on the block, Brendan Moore. Brendan secured his second succesive overall championship, congrats to Brendan, Brian, Lea and the team of Flat Four Racing on their well deserved victory
